I could not pick just one of Richard Calmes photographs to share! He photographs dancers whether it be on a stage or in a class room setting or even outside completely away from where a dancer usually is.
The way he uses the light along with a beautiful dancers body is absolutely breath taking!
"Richard believes that dancers have more control of the body than any other athlete, and by utilizing lighting in various ways, he can accentuate that fact."
The First two pictures I posted of his are in a class room setting. He captures the beauty of a child learning how to stretch and then the second, children watching intently as two mature dancers show a lift. In this he is capturing the children's earning to learn and to become what they are seeing as they grow as a dancer.
The third and fourth pictures I posted are of two gorgeous ballerinas. The thing I love about these two pictures is the way he uses their movement and lack there of a costume (so just basic dance wear along with pointe shoes). The third is almost a silhouette with the use of a white back ground and the dancer almost blacked out in a shadow but I love how you can see just a bit of color from her leotard.
The fourth is straight up movement. The use of the purple cloth makes it look like she is flowing through water along with cloth in her hand. Black background and color of her skin and her leotard and then the cloth is absolutely gorgeous!
The last photo, the use of the background and the dancer jumping in to the air makes it feel like she is flying above all the sky scrappers we are seeing in the background I love how we see more detail in the background of this photo and she is more of a silhouette flying.
